Master Simon Bartley presents the official hat to Lord Mayor Fiona Woolf at Mansion House

As tradition dictates, the incoming Lord Mayor, this year Alderman Fiona Woolf, is given her official tricorn hat by the Feltmakers’ Company, and this is presented to her at a short ceremony at Mansion House by the Master Feltmaker, with the Wardens of the Company in attendance. The Lord Mayor first wore her hat at the Silent Ceremony held in Guildhall and the doffing of the hat by the new Lord Mayor and the removing of his hat by the outgoing Lord Mayor marks the official handover of this office. The hat is then worn for the Lord Mayor’s Show parade and by tradition, is waved by the new Lord Mayor to the crowds, and the official presentation of the hat takes place a few days after these events.
