Judging the entries
Summary of the rules for 2012
Applications are invited from fashion students from approved colleges and employees of a trainee or apprentice status working in the headwear industry
- Entries may be submitted from any country within the European Union.
- There is no age restriction.
- There should be only one entry per student, and a maximum of five entries per college, (unless prior permission has been granted).
- Whilst the award will be for design, that design should be capable of being manufactured in a factory or workroom and be suitable for commercial sale. A sample to fit an average head size of 57cm must be submitted.
- The entry should be supported by a written paper outlining the thought and inspiration behind the design, and guidelines for production of the hat (Entries may not be judged if this paper is not submitted)
- Fur felt or Wool felt has to be used, although it need not be the major content of the hat.

to receive the ‘rules of entry’ and the competitor’s application form.
The closing date will be March 1st 2012, but entries should not be sent before February 1st 2012.
Judging will take place during April 2012 and the Judges decision will be final.
All non-award winning entries will be returned in April 2012
Award winning entries will not be returned until after June 2012
Award prizes:
The First Prize winner will receive £1200 plus a total of two weeks work experience, (one in Rachel Trevor-Morgan’s London workroom and one at Walter Wright’s factory in Luton)
The Second Prize winner will receive £600
The Third Prize winner will receive £450
Other Prizes of £200 will be awarded for:
Artwork and Presentation, Commerciality, Craftsmanship, and Innovative Use of Felt
