Hats Off to Luton

On Friday 2nd February 2007, 42 Feltmakers, their partners and guests sat down to lunch at The Pavilion Masonic Centre in Luton for the annual Luton Lunch. An excellent four course lunch with coffee was enjoyed by everyone in convivial company. Unfortunately our Master, Derek Bonham, was unable to attend, but immediate Past Master John Curteis ably stepped into the breach to say a few words of thanks to Past Master Geoffrey Farr for his superb organisation of the event. Liverymen attended from far and wide, including [of course] a good attendance from the locals! We were particularly delighted to welcome our Chaplain, Colin Semper, and the founder of the Luton Lunch, Past Master Charles Simeons. As well as the three Past Masters already mentioned, we were fortunate to have five other Past Masters grace us with their presence, Peter Keens, Martin Harper, Pip Wright, Bill Horsman and David Bentata.

Time passed all too quickly and we finished at 2.45pm, allowing the workaholics to return to their offices for a final fix of work for the week! As always, it was an excellent function, which will be repeated in 2008. I thoroughly recommend that members join us for a most enjoyable taste of Livery fellowship.

Alastair Hay.
