Inter-Livery Golf Tournament - 2007 |
The Prince Arthur Cup
The Annual Inter-Livery Golf Tournament was held at Walton Heath, Surrey on Thursday 17th May. The Feltmakers’ team managed to cause great confusion to other participants by virtue of the similarity of the Christian names of its four players (Geoffrey, Jeremy, Geoffrey and Gerry)! Messrs Vero (Captain), Brassington, Farr and Higginson met for dinner at the Vero residence the night before the match for a tactical planning session which proved to be only moderately successfull. The match was played over 36 holes, the morning on the Old Course and the afternoon on the New Course. We played with most pleasant partners from the Carmen and the Launderers. The match was played in torrential rain in the morning and in sunshine in the afternoon, such being the vagaries of the English climate. Results were good but not brilliant – the Feltmakers were 14th out of 54, a respectable result on the day and one which automatically qualifies us for next year’s Inter Livery Golf Tournament. The overall winners were the Insurers who mastered the conditions on the day in excellent style and narrowly edged the Leathersellers into second place. A wonderful day’s golf and camaraderie with over 200 participants playing in a superbly organised tournament. Our thanks to Walton Heath Golf Club and to the Livery Companies Golfing Society, both of whom did so much to ensure a successful and enjoyable day. Gerry Higginson
