Rules of the Competition 2008To Design a Lady's HatApplications are invited from fashion students from an approved college, application may also be made by employees working in the headwear industry but of a trainee or apprentice status.  Judging the 2007 Entries Entries may be submitted from any country within the European Community. There is no age restriction. Whilst the award will be for design, that design should be capable of being manufactured in a factory or workroom for commercial sale. A sample must be submitted. There should be only one entry per student and a maximum of five entries per college unless prior permission has been granted. There should be a written backing paper outlining the thought and inspiration behind the design, and guidelines for production of the hat. Entries may not be judged if this paper is not submitted. Fur felt or wool felt has to be used, although it need not be the major content of the hat. The hat must be made to fit an average head size of 57cm. Award prizes: The First Prize winner will receive £1000. The Second Prize winner will receive £500. The Third Prize winner will receive £250. Minor Prizes of £100 will be awarded for: Artwork and Presentation, Commerciality, Craftsmanship and Innovative Use of Felt. Entries should not be sent before February 1st. 2008 and the closing date will be March 1st 2008. All non award winning entries will be returned in April 2008 Award winning entries will not be returned until after June 2008. Judging will take place during March 2008 and the Judges decision will be final.
All entries should be clearly marked Feltmakers Design Award and sent to: Mr William Horsman, Albion Works, 29 Albion Road, Luton, Beds, LU2 ODS. A return address label must be included and if from a college, where applicable, a list of students' names.
